Before I qualified as a first aid and mental health first aid instructor I was a fire-fighter with 30 years experience of performing real first aid & initial trauma care on real people in real emergency situations. I was also a man with 30 years experience of living with serious mental health issues because of the things that I have seen and experienced.
It took a long time to get the right combination of supports to get me to this place we call recovery and during that time I survived several suicide attempts and saw most of my relationships suffer including those with my wife, my kids, my friends, and my colleagues.
Thankfully I did survive, I made it to recovery, and now I use my experiences to bring my training courses to life for my learners. I also tell my story to audiences who are interested in hearing what it is like to go to the darkest places and come back to the light in the hope that I can inspire others to find their road to recovery, and also to help others who need support.
My talks are a no holds barred roller-coaster of emotion and passion which really help you to understand that no matter how bad our mental health gets, we can recover and go on to live a happy, healthy, and productive life!
My next key note speech is at the Mental Health & Emergency Services Conference at Edgehill University on the 20th August 2019. If you would like to attend please follow this link: https://www.edgehill.ac.uk/events/2019/08/20/mental-health-and-emergency-services-conference/
